The paper’s front-page editorial notes that Kosovars will remain isolated for another year and not get visa liberalization: “Kosovo Government officials claim they have met all criteria required for visa liberalization, but it clearly isn’t so, because Kosovo citizens would not have to wait for months to get a visa from Western embassies in Pristina. The European Commission has always been clear on the matter and never gave false hopes, but it was the political interpretation by Kosovo institutions that raised high expectations. In the 2010 election campaign, the current prime minister had promised that, in 15 months, Kosovars would be able to travel freely in the Schengen zone. The promise was never kept and we seem to be very far from this goal. The visa liberalization roadmap contains all the requirements that Kosovo needs to meet. Some of the key criteria include rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime, reforms in the administration, and border security. Institutions have failed to strengthen the judicial system and representatives of all three tiers of the government continue to prove that they are above the law and are thus damaging democracy and the state itself. As a result, the European Union is in no rush to grant visa liberalization to Kosovars. To make matters worse, recently there is a growing demand for migration from Kosovo as a result of economic setbacks and lack of jobs.”
