OSCE Mission in Kosovo calls for better protection of cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo and better cooperation between local and central authorities.
The OSCE report labeled ‘Challenges in Protection of the Immovable Material Cultural Heritage in Kosovo’ brings that number of incidents against the religious objects had increased in the last year, when 87 such cases were reported, whereas objects belonging to Serbian Orthodox Church were most frequently targeted by perpetrators.
The OSCE report further brings that although there are no reports on ethnic motivation, such incidents are creating bad influence on the perception of the security and freedom of movement, particularly for Kosovo Serbs.
Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Jean-Claude Schlumberger assessed as positive development the creation of police unit in charger for protection of the cultural heritage, however he said that number of patrols around those objects should be increased in order to reduce number of incidents.
