Besnik Osmani, secretary general in the Ministry for Local Government, told the news agency that there has been progress in harmonizing the statutes of the four northern municipalities. He said he believes these municipal assemblies will respect the deadline and that there will be no need to repeat elections there. The four northern municipalities had violations in their statutes and there is ongoing work to correct them.
“It is now up to municipal authorities to respect the deadline. They are working to correct the mistakes. There is relatively good progress on most issues related to the statutes. The Ministry for Local Government, however, will wait for the final decisions of municipal assemblies and our position will be announced after their decisions,” Osmani added.
