Kosovo: Serbs in one list? (Vecernje Novosti)

If Pristina amends the controversial law, it is possible that our compatriots will go to the elections united. Unification could bring more seats.

The political representatives of Serbs in Kosovo do not exclude the possibility to participate in the elections for the assembly with a single list. This would prevent the waste of Serbian votes and number of seats won would be higher.

Prerequisite to think about this is that Pristina allows displaced to vote and not to abolish reserve seats in the assembly.

The president of the CI “Srpska” Vladeta Kostic said that the unique list in “theory” is feasible, but suggests that the electoral rules in Kosovo are fairly liberal, because they allow the nomination with only a thousand signatures:

– Therefore, even if the relevant parties participate together, most probably there would be Serbs who would make a special list.

About the option that CI “Srpska” and the Independent Liberal Party (SLS), which is already active in Kosovo institutions, participate together, Kostic says it is too early to say:

– This does not mean that we cannot have a unified caucus, which, in my opinion, would be desirable.

However, Petar Miletic from SLS, who is also vice president of the Assembly, told our newspaper that the unique list would be “ideal”:

– It could be a very real option if on the eve of the elections some personal interests are set away and an agreement made on the distribution of seats.

Ksenija Bozovic, vice president the CI SDP tells us that the manner of participation in the elections will not be decided before the 27th of April, when they “expect Oliver Ivanović to be released on bail.”

Political analyst Dusan Janjic says that participation in one column would mobilize larger numbers of voters, reduced the number of “lost” votes and brought greater number of seats. He estimates that a single list is possible, but that at stake is and the option of two Serbian lists – “harder” – gathered around the CI “Srpska”, on which could be the SLS, and the “moderate” one with CI SDP, “Common future”, and “Alliance of Kosovo Serbs”.

– If there are two lists, it would be important that both in some way are supported by Belgrade. Elections can be called at any moment, so it would be good when the Parliament and the Government are formed, they together with the president consider the whole situation – Janjic said.
