Artists from Belgrade and Pristina have started to work on William Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo and Juliet, which will be directed by renowned Serbian actor Miki Manojlovic.

The project will be carried out by Manojlovic’s Belgrade-based Integration Workshop and Pristina-based Qendra Multimedia.

The details of the project were presented at a press conference in Belgrade on Saturday by Albanian playwright from Kosovo-Metohija Jeton Neziraj and Serbian actors Anita Mancic and Goran Jevtic. “The casting has already been held in Pristina, and a total of 71 artists from this city, Pec, northern and southern Kosovska Mitrovica and Skoplje have applied which indicates that the idea was well accepted,” Manojlovic said.

“I think it is important and useful to spread the integration circles in our city, country and neighborhood,” he said.

Manojlovic said that the piece will be played in Serbian, Albanian and English, adding that it is scheduled to premier in Belgrade and Pristina by the end of the year and afterwards it will be played across the Balkans.

Neziraj said that that the project has attracted much attention both of the media and artists, and expressed satisfaction that it will be staged in Belgrade as well.
