In an interview for Radio Free Europe, U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Tracey Ann Jacobson, called on institutions to react to the issue of Kosovars going to war in Syria. Jacobson commented on the language of hate that some imams use in mosques and said that such speech has no room in democracy. “I think this is something that we should all be worried about. The war in Syria is horrible and it has been going on for a long time. We in Kosovo are worried that some Kosovar youths are going to war in Syria and are joining radical groups and implementing that ideology. So what happens next? We saw the attack against three members of the gendarmerie in Turkey who were killed by a returning fighter. We saw the suicide bomb attack in Iraq executed by a Kosovar that had returned from Syria. This is very concerning and we all need to react to this, both the international community and Kosovo, because this problem clearly does not concern only Kosovo but the whole world,” Jacobson said.
