Vice President of Kosovo Assembly Petar Miletic said that in the case Draft Law on general Elections and Serbian amendments will not be discussed till dissolving of the Assembly, Kosovo Parliamentary elections might be held according to the existing Law on elections.

When asked how current Law on elections suits the Serbian community, Miletic said that in some areas the old law is better than disputable Draft Law, for which Serbs didn’t vote and because of which they boycott the work of the Assembly.

“The current Law on elections is slightly better for Serbs when it comes to the voting right, procedure on registration in electoral roll and issue of reserved seats. Considering some interpretations, there will be a lot of problems, because Law and Constitution will conflict each other (due to different interpretation of two mandates for reserved seats for minority communities),” said Miletic.

He explained that according to one interpretation those mandates expired, while at the same time those mandates exist in current law. “We requested clarification from the Kosovo Constitutional Court. However, we were informed that we are not authorized to ask such questions. As explained, only government or Kosovo President can ask for those clarifications,” said Miletic.

He stated that Minister Dalibor Jeftic already sent request for Constitutional Court clarification, to the Government. According to some sources that request was not yet included in the agenda of the Kosovo Government.
