Professor of Political Science Dragan Simic believes that recognition of NATO that Serbia was bombed without the consent of the UN Security Council is good, though confession occurred additionally and although this is something we already knew. “That is obvious for many people in NATO and for many people in the West. They often express that opinion, but not publicly. However, it is important that NATO is reviewing decision on bombing. Even delayed recognition is important,” said Simic.

He believes that Gerhard Schroeder’s statement ( as well statements of other statesmen) is the need to reach the level of moral activity, which resulted that after 15 years of bombing talk about what happened in 1999.

Commenting on the future steps of Serbia and the ability to raise this issue before the international courts, Simic believes that there is a legal basis. “However, as a political scientist, I am inclined to the other, more delicate, political and diplomatic ways of acting,” Simic said.

Professor Simic recalled examples of major powers which tried to compensate material damage, though they never said they made mistake.

That’s how USA, after the bombing and destruction of Germany, through the Marshall Plan and billions of dollars of help raised the German economy. Also, in spite of the terrible conflict with Japan, under American Umbrella, Japan economy was developed in a fascinating way, Simic recalls.
