BELGRADE – Secretary of State at the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) Vladimir Bozovic met with new chief of the EULEX mission’s regional office in Belgrade Axel Jaenicke Wednesday to discuss a recent incident in Novi Sad when a police officer was shot by a man from Kosovo-Metohija (KiM).

Bozovic, who is in charge of coordinating international cooperation and internal controls, asked EULEX to assist MUP in solving the crime “as an attack on a police officer is also an attack on the state and its citizens, and as such attracts a lot of particular public attention and causes public concern,” the Serbian MUP said in release.

Jaenicke expressed interest in the health of the wounded Ivan Micic, pledging that the EULEX mission will do everything in its power to help shed more light on the crime.

Also taking interest in officer Micic’s health were the Embassies of the U.S. and Germany, as besides Serbian, the attacker holds the latter’s citizenship, and the European Union office in Kosovo.

Bozovic requested the Serbian police director to produce a detailed report on all the steps taken by the police in this case, the release said.

Police officer Micic (25) sustained serious physical injuries when he was shot by I.S. (58) during a police intervention carried out in response to a phone call for help in Novi Sad on Saturday, the Novi Sad police department has said in a release.

I.S. arrived in Novi Sad, travelling from Vucitrn in central KiM, on the same day.
