Families of the missing and President of Pristina Commission for Missing Persons Pren Gjetaj, as well as judge of the High Court in Belgrade, visited today the location in Rudnica near Raska, where excavations are on-going to recover remains.

President of Pristina team for missing persons Pren Gjetaj said he was satisfied with the work of professionals who are responsible for digging, finding, autopsy and identification of the remains, so far were found remains of seven persons.

“The works are going according to plan, as far as the technical and professional side we are satisfied. After completion of the work on the site, the work will be continued in two more locations, in the tailings and the hill overlooking the field where now excavation is on-going,” he said.

Families of the missing during the war in Kosovo were enabled to periodically visit the location of Rudnica where excavations are carried out.

One of the family members of the missing points out that it is very important that we started with a search of the site in order to shed light on the fate of the missing.

“The families are waiting. Politicians say that they are working on solving the fate of the missing. The families think that a small number of people are involved in the excavation; from Saturday until now little has been done. It is said that the work will be completed in 60 days, but how it started, this excavation will last six months,” said Bajram Çerkinaj.

Cooperation between Serbian and Kosovo’s team is good, and the results are expected by 5th May.

“Each of us is doing its job. Manual removal of asphalt and work with small tools slows down the work. There is cooperation between all teams involved in the excavation. Our main goal is that until 5th May all is ready and then we will send the remains for DNA analysis in Tuzla,” said in a statement for RTK2, Head of Department of Forensic Medicine of the Government of Kosovo Arsim Grxhaliu.

Based on the previous statements of the President of the Serbian Government Commission for Missing Persons Veljko Odalovic, it is planned that the work will last until the investigation is brought to an end.

Team from Belgrade leads excavation and research, attended by representatives of the Kosovo Department of Forensic Medicine, EULEX, and the International Commission for Missing Persons and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
