Several news sites are reporting that the Financial Crimes Unit of the Kosovo Police raided the Privatization Agency of Kosovo (PAK) this morning in search of officials suspected of abusing public property for personal gain. Zeri reports that 11 people have been arrested so far. Reliable sources told the paper that police have raided the houses of several senior PAK officials. Police also raided the house of a former member of the PAK board and arrested him. The same sources said that among the 11 arrested are current and former officials of the PAK, cadastral officials and a businessman with the initials A.D. Sources also said that police tried to arrest a member of the Kosovo Assembly with the initials N.O., but he managed to escape. Police are also conducting raids and arrests in Podujevo where the Financial Crimes Unit is raiding cadastral offices in the city. Indeksonline reports that the raids and arrests are related to the privatization of a factory in Podujevo in 2006. According to the news site, international officials are also on the list of suspects. Lajmi reports that three international members of the PAK Board of Directors, who enjoy diplomatic immunity, are among the suspects. “Investigations on the matter were initiated several months ago and now they are being finalized. If it is confirmed that the suspects were involved in criminal acts, their wealth will be confiscated,” a source said. LDK MP Naser Osmani, mentioned in the list of suspects that will be interviewed about the privatization of FAN factory in Podujevo, told Radio Free Europe that he is returning to Kosovo from Albania after receiving an invitation from law enforcement authorities to provide additional explanations. “I don’t have information about possible charges. I heard that it involves a voting process at PAK about a privatization that was done several years ago, before I was there,” Osmani said.
