The third and final meeting on Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Kosovo and EU has come to a conclusion. On this occasion, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said the agreement will serve as a basis for regulating Kosovo’s political relations with the EU until the time Kosovo joins the union.

Telegrafi reports that Thaci commended negotiating teams on their outstanding work and noted that the agreement will mark the official beginning of Kosovo’s EU membership process. “We have in front of us an excellent political, legal, and economic offer to join the most powerful political and economic bloc in the world”, Thaci said.

He said that apart from political and legal importance, Stabilisation and Association Agreement also carried economic benefits. “The negotiated agreement will provide the full opening of European Union market for our businesses and at the same time will offer special protection for development of small and medium enterprises”, he stressed.

At the same time, Gazeta Express quotes EU negotiators saying that the agreement is only the beginning of Kosovo’s journey to EU. They said priorities include Kosovo demonstrating efficiency in the field of rule of law, administration, free and democratic elections, and respect for rights of communities.

Kosovo Minister of European Integration Vlora Citaku explained that the agreements are expected to be initialed over the summer months.
