The Executive Director of the Project for Ethnic Relations in Kosovo Leon Malazogu said to Danas that no matter on results of the Kosovo early parliamentary elections, the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj, as the candidate of the united opposition, is closer to the post of the prime minister designate of the new Kosovo government than the outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, even though the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) won the most of votes at early parliamentary elections.
“No matter on different constitutional interpretations, there is nothing disputable if the President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga offers mandate to the candidate of the opposition, which can create the majority in the Kosovo Assembly,” claims Malazogu.
In that case, argues Malazogu, the DPK is left with the possibility to appeal the decision with the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, since such possibility is announced by the DPK official Hajredin Kuci, in case that Jahjaga decides not to offer the mandate to Thaci.
Despite the expectations in some diplomatic circles in Pristina that, following the initial post-elections quarrels and re-grouping amongst the political parties of Kosovo Albanians, Thaci and Haradinaj would create a joint government, Malazogu assessed that ‘big coalition is impossible at this political moment’.
“This is the test of maturity for Kosovo. I believe that there will be political tensions, but not the destabilization of Kosovo,” said Malazogu.
Pristina-based media have entered into new speculation over the weekend with announcements that talks have started amongst the political parties on the creation of the ‘technical, comprehensive government with the one-year term, which could receive the support of the international factor in Kosovo’. For that scenario, writes Tribuna, Alliance for Kosovo of Bexhet Pacolli should pass the threshold, whereas according to current results provided by Kosovo Central Election Commission it received only 4,66 votes. If the talks fail, the interpretation of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo will be requested for the appointment of the prime minister designate, claims the paper.
