Kurti: We do not want Srpska List in Government

(Most monitored broadcasters, Klan Kosova&KTV)

Vetëvendosje Movement does not think of stepping back from its position to support the future Government. Their positions regarding the conditions have approximated.

Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti said that they do not want Srpska List in the Government and they do not want them at the Assembly either, because they are a gift from the outgoing Prime Minister.

Regarding Tuesday’s decision of the Constitutional Court, he said the only question not included in the long list of queries that President Atifete Jahjaga sent to the Constitutional Court was ‘who is she really’. The President resembled a reporter sending questions for an interview, Kurti added.

In an interview with Kosovapress, Kurti said that coalition of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), the Initiative for Kosovo (Nisma) and Vetëvendosje is natural, irrespective to his earlier criticism against the LDK and AAK.

PDK deputy chairperson Hajredin Kuçi told Rrokum TV that they do not rule out extraordinary elections in case his party does not manage to form the government, although he considers another round of elections as a harmful process for Kosovo, Klan Kosova reported.

Houses reconstruction at Kroi i Vitakut stopped

Albanians were not allowed to rebuild their houses, therefore Serbs will not be allowed to work, either. Albanian citizens of ‘Kroi i Vitakut’ neighbourhood reacted like this after Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north building inspectors asked them building permits to allow construction of six houses. They consider this request meaningless, because building permits were never acquired before in this area.

Because of these tensions, Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north mayor Goran Rakic called representatives of these Albanians to a meeting at the Administrative Office building which is still led by Adrijana Hodzic. The latter confirmed that it was her that sent down the inspectors to stop constructions.

Albanian citizens demanded equal treatment from Rakic regarding constructions.

Rakic also met with Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north municipal councillors. They agreed that all parties should apply for building permits in case they want to continue construction.

Rakic denied that placement of the new barricade over Ibër River Bridge has produced this situation.

Klan Kosova also reported that the outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri travelled to Brussels to discuss a solution for new barricades over Ibër River.

In the meantime, Albanian municipal councillor Emir Azemi said that Serbs would continue with their construction if they would not have been stopped by the Albanians.

Certification of election results to be delayed

(Most monitored broadcasters, KTV)

AKR and several LDK MPs do not even think of stopping from filing complaints, as they do not agree with final election results by any means.

The Supreme Court has received about 15 complaints from them, because they did not agree with Elections Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP), which ordered vote recount in 51 polling stations.

The Supreme Court has a 72-hour deadline to come out with a decision on reinforcement of these complaints. Because these complaints were addressed for revision at the second instance, certification of final election results will delay. The Central Elections Commission (CEC) will wait for a decision from this court before acting in line with its competencies.

On the other hand, recount of 51 votes, which was done with ECAP’s decision, following complaints of several political entities, did not influence a lot on final result. Election certification will open way to President for mandating the new Prime Minister, based on the allowed legal deadline.

Journalist Mefail Bajqinovci threatened with life

(KTV)

Kohavision journalist Mefail Bajqinovci and host of KTV ‘Puls’ show was threatened with his life through a telephone call made around 11:00 on Wednesday.

Bajqinovci reported the case to the police which immediately located the call. It was learned that the call came in from Dubrava Prison.

“Likely, the threat is related to latest TV show as it mentioned prisoners that walk freely,” Bajqinovci said.

Kohavision condemns the threat against Mefail Bajqinovci. “Threats and blackmailing will not stop our journalists from carrying out their work with devotion and professionalism,” reads Kohavision’s reaction.

The threat was also condemned by Association of Kosovo Journalists (AKJ). AKJ called on institutions responsible to seriously investigate the case.

RTK Union reacts against uncontrolled unemployment

(KTV)

Radio and Television of Kosovo (RTK) Independent Union has reacted after uncontrolled employments, which, according to them, are happening at the RTK.

“Using the institutional vacuum in the country, due to general elections, RTK management is continuing to employ persons without criteria or financial coverage. This management, only for a one-year mandate, has created hundreds of new jobs by employing mainly their family members or relatives of the people in power.

All of this is happening at a time when RTK is facing debts of millions of Euros and financial difficulties,” reads a reaction of this Union.

The reactions adds that: “The politics’ influence and nepotism in RTK is best described with employment of Xhevahire Izmaku’s daughter, former member of Assembly media committee, without respecting the vacancy announcement procedure.”

RTK Union called on the country President, political parties and civil society to raise their voice against this degradation that RTK is undergoing.

Gender stereotypes still present among Kosovars

(RTK1)

According to a research conducted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), gender stereotypes are still present among Kosovo population. The research adds that discrimination between women and men still exists in Kosovo. In this regard, it mentions low representation of women in leading positions and decision-making roles.

A high percentage of respondents interviewed by the UNDP consider that tradition, lack of state support, family pressure and male domination in business are some of the main reasons that prevent women to seek leadership positions.

Donjeta Morina, project assistant, stated that 45% of respondents indicated that men are better political leaders, against 14% of those that believe that women are better political leaders than men.

Approximately 45% of all respondents associated parliamentary professions with men compared to 3% association with women. Meanwhile, 67% of all respondents associated the position of Mayor with men, whereas only 3% associated it with women.

Recommendations given from this report are to review the representation of gender roles in children’s books and primary, middle and high school curricula.
