Construction of the Pristina-Hani i Elezit highway has officially started. Present at the inauguration ceremony today was the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, acting Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, Deputy Prime Minister of Macedonia, Musa Xhaferi, US Ambassador to Pristina, Tracey Ann Jacobson, and other senior officials from the Government of Kosovo.

Representatives of the opposition were not seen at the ceremony while the US Ambassador Jacobson openly refused to talk at the ceremony without explaining the reasons behind this decision.

Addressing the participants, PM Thaci said the highway will be named Arben Xhaferi, to honour one of the most prominent Albanian politicians. “Pristina-Skopje highway is one of our greatest projects that falls under one of the most important things we presented in the New Mission”, said Thaci.

The highway is expected to be construction within 42 months and will cost 600 million euro. The contract was awarded to the US-Turkish consortium, Bechtel-Enka, which also constructed the “Ibrahim Rugova” highway.
