Opposition bloc meeting ends without agreement

(All monitored broadcasters, Klan Kosova & KTV)

The meeting between opposition bloc leaders, LDK, AAK, NISMA, and Vetëvendosje ended without an agreement; however, a new meeting for this matter was set up.

Vetevëndosje leader Albin Kurti said that there are big discrepancies between the verbal statements made and the readiness to put them as a text on paper and then sign it. He said that their differences are related to dialogue and privatization issues.

Kurti said that without a written agreement the post-elections opposition bloc will not have Vetëvendosje’s votes for the Assembly Speaker or the Government.

AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said that there are discrepancies; however, he still hopes that the agreement will be reached.

In case that the agreement between LDK, AAK, Nisma and Vetëvendosje will not be reached, the political situation in the country will only aggravate further. Analysts anticipate a political crisis, as none of the coalitions will have necessary number of votes for election of the Assembly Speaker. According to them, neither the Constitution nor the Assembly’s work regulation explains future steps, in case the first step fails.

Klan Kosova reported that the working groups, comprising of representatives of the four political parties, meet again on Monday at 15:00hs in AAK premises.

Mass grave suspected in vicinity of Ibër River Bridge

Elmaze Zeka, an Albanian woman from Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north, claims that Serbs killed Albanian civilians and burned them together in May 1999 in the mosque of northern part of the town.

“I saw people who were forced to enter the mosque and they were beaten up. After an hour or two I heard gunshots,” Zeka said.

She remembers that Serbian forces ruined the mosque after the May 1999 event. Zeka believes that the bridge wing walls which were built after the war might have been placed over a mass grave.

Council for Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) Mitrovicë/Mitrovica says that it also has evidence about this crime. Halit Barani of CDHRF said that according to eyewitnesses, Serbs brought in dead bodies of Albanians who were shot in different locations to this place and covered them with bulldozers.

Head of the Missing Persons Association in Mitrovicë/Mitrovica Bajram Qerkini told Klan Kosova over the phone that they will contact Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north mayor Goran Rakic about searching the suspected site near the Ibër River Bridge.
