Hundreds of milk producers and their associations have protested today in Pristina demanding better conditions and greater support for local farmers. Protesters spilled several hundred liters of milk in front of the government building. “We have gathered here to express our outrage and disappointment because of the negligence of Kosovo institutions to resolve problems that have been accumulating for years,” said Ramadan Memaj, head of the Kosovo Association of Dairy Processing. He said that if their requests are not met by 23 July they would organize Kosovo-wide protests. “We want the government to launch anti-dumping measures, to stop importing high-concentrate milk from abroad, to implement awareness-raising activities for consuming local products and to review agreements signed so far and stop saying that UNMIK is to blame. This industry cannot survive for long if our requests are not met soon,” Memaj said.
