Former deputy in the Kosovo parliament Gani Geci is still at large after he killed Ruzhdi Shaqiri in a restaurant in Srbica/Skendera two days ago. Local media write that the crime is related to long lasting dispute between members of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) from Drenica region.
Some media in Pristina carried that Geci yesterday gave a short statement to portal Botapress and said that Shaqiri approached him from the back and that he killed him in self-defense from fear that Shaqiri will kill him. An unnamed member of Geci family said to daily Express that Gani Geci is in possession of Schengen visa and that his whereabouts are not known. The same source said that he guarantees that Gani Geci will return and face the justice and that he believes in Kosovo judiciary and international justice, however he has reasons not to return.
“We are waiting for tensions to calm down, because, even though, we believe in international and Kosovo justice, for the moment we estimate that he wouldn’t be safe in Kosovo prisons,” said a member of Geci family.
Eulex spokesperson Miguel Carvalho de Faria said stated that Eulex is not dealing with the murder of Ruzdi Shaqiri. “That case is managed by the Kosovo police and the question should be refered to them,” said Carvalho.
KLA veterans condemned the ‘cowardly act’ in their communiqué and requested from authorities to bring perpetrator to justice and added that they are very much concerned with themurder of the former KLA veteran.
Gani Geci, who was also and the member of the Democratic League of Dardania, was in constant dispute with the KLA members from Drenica region, who are close associates of Hashim Thaci.
Intolerance and disputes are dated 1998 after Geci refused to be under command of the Drenica group of the KLA.
Geci was targeted and earlier when he was wounded, while two of his friends, a body guard of Ibrahim Rugova and a journalist of daily Bota Sot were murdered. On that occasion Geci killed Abedin Rexha, aka Sandokan, whereas Geci stated later that he fired in self-defense.
