Northerners try to present criminal incidents as interethnic ones

(KTV)

Northern Serbs are trying to present criminal incidents, which are happening within their community, as interethnic ones; thus trying to send a message to the international community that there is no security in the north. This was done by Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north mayor Goran Rakic in a letter that he recently sent to international circles.

“It is hard to believe that this is not a string of planned incidents intended to cause disorder and panic among the Serb population in Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north and northern Kosovo,” Rakic wrote earlier.

However, Kosovo Police says that none of the recent incidents were of interethnic nature. Mitrovicë/Mitrovica south municipality officials also confirmed that these incidents are not related to interethnic issues.

Security experts consider this as an attempt of Serbs to gain more executive power in northern municipalities at a time when Kosovo lacks institutions.

KTV also tried to contact Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north mayor Goran Rakic for two consequent days, but he did not reply to its phone calls.

Representatives on Kosovo northern municipalities held a meeting on Wednesday, where they considered that EULEX is indirectly impeding implementation of the Brussels Agreement.

They announced that they will hold a joint session with members of the Council of four northern municipalities on Friday, where they will take a decision regarding their further actions.

“We expect a meeting with EULEX representatives and we call on this Mission and on the entire international community to apply the same rights for Serbs same as for all other citizens of Kosovo as far as the rule of law is concerned. While Albanians, who are accused of the most serious criminal offences, are allowed to be defended pending trial, in the worst case they are put under house arrest, a special EULEX rule applies for Serbs,” reads the letter that heads of these four municipalities issued after the meeting.
