Syle Hoxhaj, Kosovo’s chief prosecutor, spoke today about functionalization of a new mechanism with which the State Prosecution would target the most serious cases, especially those of economic crime. Hoxhaj said that through this mechanism, they will also investigate well-known politicians and powerful economic companies, using the expression of one of the EULEX prosecutors, that they will target “the big fish.” He added that the mechanism is based on the strategic plan for inter-institutional cooperation in the war against organized crime and corruption. “The main target will be prevention, detection, investigation and chasing of the most serious crimes, through a harmonized coordination of actions of competent authorities. The key individuals that will work on the implementation of the mechanism are the Prosecutor Shqipdon Fazliu, as national coordinator in the war against economic crime and Elez Blakaj, as representative of the Chief Prosecutor of the State. We have formed a team which will highlight 50 most serious cases,” said Hoxhaj.
Prosecutor Shqipdon Fazliu said that mechanism has been based on the best practices of the EU states, EU guidelines for visa liberalization and the document of national strategy for the war against terrorism and financial crime.
