Kosovo Police arrested one person of Albanian ethnicity on suspicion of participating in the planning of an assassination against Goran Rakic, Mayor of North Mitrovica. EULEX learned about this first, and forwarded the information to Kosovo Police.
Mayor Rakic said: “Kosovo Police from the North Mitrovica station yesterday informed me that they had received official notification that my assassination was being planned. They have taken all the necessary measures and designated officers who will accompany me non-stop. I’m not going to interfere in their work, and I have absolute confidence in the Kosovo Police and its leadership, particularly in the regional directorate of North Mitrovica. I am confident that they are willing and trained to accomplish their mission of protecting every citizen in the north, including me.”
Rakic said that the police later informed him that they had arrested a person of Albanian ethnicity.
