Insurance for vehicles in Kosovo and Serbia is too expensive and detrimental for the citizens and drivers, it was said today at a conference in Caglavica.

Despite the announced reduction of insurance by the Kosovo police, drivers traveling from the direction of Kosovo and central Serbia still pay high insurance for their vehicles.

Negotiator Borko Stefanovic, who at that time represented the Belgrade team and Edita Tahiri a representative of Pristina, said that this agreement will bring relief to the citizens.

So far the greatest benefits from the freedom of movement have the insurance companies on both sides, said journalist of Vecernje Novosti Dragana Zecevic at the debate in the Media centre.

“Since I live in Central Serbia, and often come to Kosovo, personally I am most impacted by the payment of insurance at the crossings. I can safely say that the agreement did not bring freedom of movement but only has limited and reduced to the freedom of costs. Only those who have money can travel,” said Zecevic.

The largest sums of money provide transport companies. Bogoljub Marinkovic owner of the agency for the transport of goods and passengers “KIMCO” said that annually, his company stands over 10 thousand.

“Solution is purely technical matter. Insurance companies just need to sign a contract between them, without the involvement of the state,” said Marinkovic.

“You cannot overcome this situation without political interference. Money from the insurance goes to the budget. The prime ministers of the two governments and responsible ministers should agree on a solution to this problem,” said journalist and analyst Fatmir Sheholi.

At the administrative crossings, where the insurance is paid, the vehicle drivers with licence plates from Serbia for a week-long stay in Kosovo allocate 20 euros.

But for passenger vehicles coming from Kosovo, insurance is much more expensive. Drivers with KS plates on a monthly basis allocate 105 euros, while vehicles with RKS labels pay about 200 euros per month.
