President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, met in New York with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Madani, with whom she discussed current developments in Kosovo, international consolidation and the European perspective of the western Balkans.

President Jahjaga emphasized that Kosovo is a country that promotes peace and good neighbourly relations in the region and strives to gain membership in all relevant international organisations, states a press release issued by the President’s Office.

“President Jahjaga stated that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation could help Kosovo in the field of further recognitions, seeing that a certain number of its members have not as yet recognised Kosovo. The successful conclusion of the recognition of the independence of Kosovo by members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation would be of help to the country in the international arena, particularly in its membership into UN and other international organisations”, the statement reads.

While hailing the progress in Kosovo, the OIC Secretary General, Iyad Madani, said the organization will continue to support Kosovo and that OIC member states which have not as yet recognised Kosovo are reviewing the possibilities for such a step.
