Bajrami: PDK can give up Assembly Speaker’s post

(KTV)

PDK offers Assembly Speaker’s post to LDK and expresses its willingness to co-govern with everyone. However, it does not give up from the Prime Minister’s post.

PDK’s candidate for Assembly Speaker Arsim Bajrami, who did not manage to get enough votes in last constitutive session, said that this is the only compromise that PDK can make, as they do not think of giving up their constitutional rights.

Talking to KTV Rubicon show, Bajrami said that they are ready to vote for Isa Mustafa as Assembly Speaker, under condition that the bloc does not expect more than this from PDK.

He said that continuation of Assembly’s constitutive session set for 02 October is an opportunity for parties to reflect and remove their blockade placed to PDK.

Bajrami called on parties to sit and talk, underlining that they cannot form any government without PDK being part of it.

EU: No interventions, only recommendations

(All monitored broadcasters, KTV)

European Union will not intervene in finding a solution to the political deadlock, but they neither see elections as an option. The only thing they will do is give recommendations how to overcome this institutional deadlock.

This was stated by the EU Office Head Samuel Zbogar, who reiterated that there will not be any interfering in Kosovo’s internal issues.

“No, we can only recommend them to find a solution as soon as possible,” Zbogar said.

Zbogar does not think that Kosovo is in a crisis, while he considers new elections as the last option, as they would prolong the process of Kosovo institutions’ establishment.

Meanwhile, after the failure to elect Assembly Speaker last Thursday, another Assembly session regarding this matter is not expected to happen this week. This was confirmed to KTV by Flora Brovina. Brovina said that were preparing for the following session, which will likely happen next week. Other TV broadcasters reported that next Assembly session will be held on 2 October.

However, VLAN representatives, who say that they will not wait long for the chairperson to call the session, consider that Brovina should reflect and give the right to the Bloc to propose the Assembly Speaker.

Arifi: VLAN Bloc will boycott potential extraordinary elections

(RTK1)

In case that a way out of the political deadlock that Kosovo is currently in is not identified, analysts consider holding of extraordinary elections as the other option.

However, Avni Arifi, first advisor to AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj and LAN candidate for Prime Minister, announced boycott of extraordinary elections from the three parties, in case these elections would potentially be held.

Arifi said that solution is at the Assembly. He said that in case the parliamentary minority, referring to PDK coalition, imposes elections than the Bloc will not take part in that electoral process.

On the other hand, Arban Abrashi, advisor to LDK leader Isa Mustafa confirmed to RTK1 that the election boycott option was also discussed between parties of LAN bloc. Nonetheless, Abrashi said that this is not also the LDK’s stance.

Ombudsperson worried about latest threats against journalists

(RTK, KTV)

Kosovo Ombudsperson Sami Kurteshi expressed his concerns about the latest threats against journalists, reported through media and public statements.

In a press statement issued, the Ombudsperson considers that threats addressed against journalist, verbal and physical assaults, intimidations through social networks or in any other forms, violate the constitutional right for freedom of media and freedom of expression, as well as alarm regarding insubstantiality of democracy functioning and rule of law state in Kosovo.

“Freedom of media and freedom of expression are guaranteed rights in our country with the Constitution and with International Instruments and Agreements directly applicable in Kosovo,” the statement reads.

Among others, Ombudsperson considers that these Instruments oblige the state not only to protect media establishments from assaults and freedom of expression, but also to protect persons’ rights from misuse of media power.

US Judge Carolan to return to Constitutional Court

(Klan Kosova)

Constitutional Court is expected to return the US judge Robert Carolan back to his post. Klan Kosova learned that budget was the reason why he initially decided to resign his post; however, two international embassies in Kosovo have secured necessary funds to pay him from their budget units.

Senior EU officials in Prishtinë/Pristina also announced return of the number of international judges at the Constitutional Court.
