Although the position of women in Kosovo is better than before, they are still excluded from the decision-making process, concluded the participants in the debate held in Caglavica.

Conclusion of the debate on “The situation of women in Kosovo” was that the rights and position of women in Kosovo is better than before, but there are still problems that the female part of the population face every day.

UN Women Executive Director, Flora Macula said that their participation in the decision-making process is at an unsatisfactory level.

“This is especially true for women from minority groups and women with special needs. In the major political parties, not only in Kosovo but throughout the Balkans, women’s rights to make decisions are limited or they do not make them at all,” said Macula.

President of the Association of Business Women “Avenija”, Gordana Djuric from Laplje Selo says that, based on the research done in 15 municipalities in Kosovo, competent authorities are indifferent to respecting laws, regulations, conventions relating to the protection of women and gender equality. Djuric said that they only want to satisfy a technical form required by the international community.

At the debate, held at the Media Centre in Caglavica, there was talk about domestic violence as one of the major concerns of women.
