“Albanian language should be introduced in Serbian schools, and Serbian language in Albanian schools,” said Language Commissioner Slavisa Mladenovic on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day of Languages in Pristina, sponsored by the OSCE mission in Kosovo and the Office of Language Commissioner.

Mladenovic said that schools should be multi-lingual, because that is a European standard. “Time is need for that. That topic should be addressed in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Also, a political consensus should be reached over that. “Europe will dictate our youth to speak both languages,” said Mladenovic.

He went on to say that there is some improvement with regard to language rights in Kosovo, however there is still a lot to be done.

As an example he pointed out the destruction of traffic and topographic signs throughout Kosovo. He stressed that it is not only the case with singes with Serbian inscription, but with the Albanian signs as well in the north of Kosovo.
