It is worrying that the incident at match Serbia-Albania did not cause equally negative reaction of both – the Serbs and Albanians, as well as all other citizens of the Balkans, announced the European Movement of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
“It is worrying that incident in the match Serbia-Albania is not perceived the same way by all people of good will in the region. Regardless of the heightened nationalist tensions on both sides, the fact is that the problematic flag of the so called Great Albania should cause negative reaction of both, Serbs and Albanians, and all other citizens of the Balkans which are full of conflict and grandiose ethnic ideology,” read the statement of the president of the movement, Rada Trajkovic. “The flag is not the flag of any sovereign state of the Balkans and as such does not deserve anyone’s respect. But appearing of the flag at this sporting event should concern every citizen of this region, whether he is Albanian, Serb, Macedonian”, she added.
European Movement of Serbs warns that at this point one should be concerned about the stability of the Balkans and should condemn the promotion of dangerous ideas of pan-Albanian nationalism “rather than try to put the incident in the” context of the Serb-Albanian conflict. ” “I am worried when I see someone is trying to give the sovereignty of the state symbols to the problematic flag, which actually is not a flag but merely a piece of cloth which promotes a malicious ideology,” says Trajkovic in a statement.
