During his meetings in the course of an official visit to the US State Department, Minster for Communities and Return in the Kosovo government, Dalibor Jevtic, said that there are still places in Kosovo where Serbs can’t move freely and visit their usurped property, communicated Ministry of Communities and Return.
“Institutions responsible for security issues did not react adequately. To date no one has responded to recent incidents. There are still places in Kosovo where Serbs can’t move freely, can’t visit their property and it even happens that their properties are destroyed. The support of important international factors is what we need whereas return and the rights of minorities in Kosovo must be a priority in the coming period”, said Jevtic during his meetings at the State Department.
Jevtic addressed and latest incidents when members of the Serbian community were attacked, houses of returnees set on fire, as well as thefts of returnee’s property while still nobody has been brought to justice. At his meetings Jevtic stressed a great concern and anxiety amongst members of the Serbian Orthodox Church ,and of all Serbs, caused by graffiti sprayed on the walls of the Visoki Decani Monastery.
Minister Jevtic also highlighted the importance of continued dialogue in Brussels as a key process for the stabilization of the region and praised a positive initiative of the Director of Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djuric, to establish a working group that will work on the return.
Director of the Office for Central and Southeastern Europe, Thomas Yazdgerdi, expressed assurances that the issue of the return of displaced persons, and generally the rights of minorities in Kosovo will remain in the focus.
