What Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in Belgrade about Kosovo, Serbia is privately told by many international leaders, the American expert for Balkans, Daniel Serwer, said last night to Voice of America in Albanian language.

“Edi Rama said about Kosovo something that many foreign leaders have privately told Serbia. In this case an individual said that publicly. Prime Minister of Serbia had to reply in a way he replied, because Serbia is not recognizing sovereignty and territorial integrity (of Kosovo), or to be more precise, actually it recognized territorial integrity with the agreement signed in April 2013 (The Brussels Agreement),” Serwer said.

He underlined that Albania and Serbia have to be able to present their differing standpoints and to find areas where they have mutual interests and added: “States with political maturity will find a way to serve the interests of their citizens, despite deep differences.”

Serwer, however, claims that it would be better for both states if their prime ministers would be focused on issues such as accomplishment of the construction of the highway Durres-Pristina-Nis, and other issues of mutual benefits, and reiterated the stand that it would be better for Serbia, on its European path, to recognize Kosovo as soon as possible, but that Serbia also has the right to has its own standpoint on over that issue.
