The director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić said in an interview to TV N1 that mass protests in Kosovo actually hide general dissatisfaction of people who live there.
“Socio-political situation in our southern province is very complex, 15 years Albanian leaders live from nationalistic rhetoric, and stories about independence,” said Đurić and added that for all these years nothing has been done economy-wise.
“40.000 Serbs are left without jobs and without any compensation in so far privatized enterprises, 60% of young in Kosovo and Metohija are unemployed, the gap between ordinary people and war-elites, who are managing Kosovo, is huge,” Đurić said.
In such conditions, he said, huge number of people is dissatisfied and there are political options which are using it for their own goals.
“Dissatisfaction of all people who live in Kosovo is boiling under the surface. Dissatisfaction with poor economy, piled-up social injustices, people look at privileged political class which got reach on nationalistic rhetoric, while people live worse than they used to live before 1999,” claims Đuric and added that opposition wishes to destabilize the provincial government and want to make their life harder with the Trepca issue, which is used for political games.
