The demonstrations which were held recently in Pristina (the most massive since the arrival of the international community in Kosovo and Metohija) were based on the platform of Serbophobia: 1) the criticism of the Serbian minister in the Kosovo government and 2) the resistance to the Belgrade’s efforts to resolve the issue of Trepca. The right to protest is the basis of any democratic society. However, according to the old Balkan tradition, in the case of Saturday’s demonstrations, the same right was misused to the level of absurdity. What is the worst, among all the burning issues that are plaguing the Kosovo society, protesters decided to protest just on issues with the ethnic prefix,” said the President of the European Movement in Kosovo and Metohija and former MP in the Kosovo parliament, Rada Trajkovic.
Trajkovic said that the “inexperience” of Minister Jablanović has prevented him to professionally perform his duties in the Government of Kosovo, and that the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, on the other hand, require the full functionality of all Serbian representatives in the Kosovo government. Because of that inexperience, his withdrawal would probably be in the interest of the Serbian community, Trajkovic said.
She also stressed that Kosovo institutions must recognize “the necessity of transformation of Djakovica/Djakove in normal city, which will not be banned for the Serbs.”
“Imagine how our everyday life would look like if every town, or street where live families of Serbian victims, would raise barriers and mark them as restricted to another ethnic group. Let us remember that even our enclaves (which emerged as an inevitable reaction to the persecution and discrimination) were a thorn in the eye of many people, who saw in them a symbol of ethnic division. What than we can say for a city which is banned for the entire nation because of historical wounds,” stressed Trajkovic.
