“We request for the Serbs from Djakovica to be free to go to the city where they were born,” said Djokica Stanojevic, the President of the Association of Displaced from Djakovica/Gjakove to KIM radio.
Stanojevic said that the displaced Serbs from this city are aware that every visit to their native town Djakovica/Gjakove is a danger and the possibility of endangering lives and that is why he requested yesterday from representatives of the US Embassy in Pristina to enable them to attend the upcoming All Souls’ Day on Saturday.
At a meeting with representatives of the embassy, Stanojevic presented all the problems of displaced during 16 years.
He said that at every meeting with international factors they say that human rights of IDPs from Djakovica/Gjakove are taken away, and that the US Embassy stated that they will try to rectify the misunderstandings that exist between displaced Serbs from Djakovica/Gjakove and institutions.
Stanojevic said that he knows that someone wants to obtain political points through their visits to hometown.
He also added that it is now important that the issue of missing persons is not misused during political conflicts, whether in terms of Serbs, Albanians or members of another community.
