“KFOR will continue to support and cooperate with the United Nations, the European Union and other international actors. It will continue to support the Kosovo Police and EULEX,” said KFOR Commander, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Bulgaria in Kosovo, Nedialtcho Dimitrov Dantchev, reported KFOR.

General Figliuolo discussed with the AmbassadorDantchev the latest developments related to security and socio-economic situation in Kosovo. They agreed that it was important to have a “comprehensive approach”, involving representatives of the international community, in order to achieve “normalization of society through dialogue and cooperation in the Balkans.”

However, it is unusual that international officials in Kosovo are calling to, or suggest the mission of the United Nations (as KFOR in a statement) since Kosovo unilaterally declared independence and since began visible marginalization of the role of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, including the representatives of UNMIK.

UNMIK itself has almost no visible activity on the ground, since, in the summer of 2008, several months after the unilateral declaration of independence, began the process of “reconfiguration”. This mission has since been completely marginalized in the field and its work is reduced mainly on preparation of regular quarterly reports on the situation in Kosovo, which are sent to the Security Council.
