MITROVICA – Marko Djuric, director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo-Metohija, said on Sunday that the current and all future governments of Serbia will stand by its people in the southern province and Serbian Statehood Day will be marked in Kosovo.

“Serbian Statehood Day will be celebrated in Kosovo-Metohija because Kosovo-Metohija is part of Serbia,” Djuric said at ceremony marking Statehood Day in Mitrovica.

He underlined that the roots of the Serbian state stem from Kosovo.

In order to become a successful, modern state, Serbia needs to cherish its roots. The roots of today’s Serbia are here in Kosovo. Therefore, we are proud to celebrate our national holiday in Mitrovica today, Djuric said.

The ceremony in Mitrovica was attended by Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakic, head of the interim body of the municipality of Mitrovica Aleksandar Spiric, Serb mayors in Kosovo and others.
