Lumezi: Prolongation of State Prosecutor’s selection, unnecessary and harmful

(TV21)

The only candidate for Chief State Prosecutor post in the final stage of the selection process, Aleksandër Lumezi, says that selection of the State Prosecutor is being done according to certain calculations.

Lumezi does not agree with Constitutional Court’s interference in this selection process, saying that the Prosecutorial Council is not obliged to respond to the Constitutional Court’s request, since, according to him, no complaints were filed from his counter-candidates in this process.

Lumezi considers prolongation of Chief State Prosecutor’s selection as unnecessary and harmful for the prosecutorial system.

Deputy President of Kosovo Constitutional Court, Ivan Cukalovic, considers involvement of the Constitutional Court in selection of the Chief Prosecutor as a political implication.

He says that Constitutional Court will have this case on its agenda and will make its treatment, upon which it will decide in line with the Constitution regarding the manner of Chief State Prosecutor’s selection.

On the other hand, Lumezi says that only the President should be informed about his selection as Chief State Prosecutor. According to Lumezi, the President should only carry out the formal decreeing act.

Ombudsperson Sami Kurteshi has accused Constitutional Court’s President Enver Hasani of concealing facts regarding the extension of the mandate of three international judges, saying that their selection was done in lack of quorum.

On the other hand, Deputy President of Kosovo Constitutional Court Ivan Cukalovic says that their selection does not come into contradiction with Kosovo Constitution.

On the other hand, Director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Marko Djuric qualified as incorrect and detrimental the statement made by Ulrike Lunacek.
