Gërxhaliu addresses a letter to PM Mustafa

(TV21, KTV)

Concerned that he did not received for five months an answer from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in relation to the DNA results of the exhumed bodies, the director of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Arsim Gërxhaliu addressed a letter to Kosovo PM Isa Mustafa.

Gërxhaliu noted that he has been informed by EULEX that DNA samples cannot be completed because the International Commission on Missing Persons lacks funds. He underlines that this is a sensitive issue and needs to be discussed with the Office of the Prime Minister in order to find a quick solution.

Also, Gërxhaliu warns the government to take seriously the indications that next year ICMP might pull out of Balkans, noting that the government should work on finding a solution if the ICMP withdraws from Balkans.

Spokesperson of the Government Arban Abrashi confirmed to KTV that the Office of the Prime Minister has received the letter and added that they will try to answer Gërxhaliu’s concerns within the week.

The International Commission on Missing Persons conducted DNA analyses based on an agreement of 2004 reached with UNMIK. This organization voluntarily has identified human remains through DNA tests and analyses but lately it has announced that this might change.

Jablanovic: Srpska Lista to decide about next steeps soon

(RTK2)

Aleksandar Jablanovic of Srpska Lista said that they have had few meetings last weeks about the potential return of Srpska Lista to Kosovo institutions and that the final decision will be taken during the next day or two.

According to Jablanovic if Srpska Lista receives assurances from the coalition partners in the Government of Kosovo that Serbs will be able to visit Gjakovë/Djakovica for Orthodox Easter, there is a possibility that the decision to return to the institution will be positive.

Prishtinë/Pristina and Belgrade divided over the Association of Serb Municipalities

(TV21)

Statements of Kosovo officials about the Association of Serb Municipalities contradict those of the official Belgrade.

Serbia’s Minister Of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said earlier during the week in Prishtinë/Pristina, at the regional ministerial meeting  that the Association of Serb majority municipalities is defined as a form of cooperation between Serb majority municipalities.

‘Of course, this association cannot be similar to organisations such as Red Cross or any other non-governmental organisation’, said Dacic.

But, the Government of Kosovo considers this statement as political marketing.  Minister for Dialogue Edita Tahiri said that it was Dacic himself that signed the Brussels agreement, which envisages that the establishment of the Association will be done in compliance with Kosovo laws.

Vetëvendosje MP Ilir Deda said that based on the current laws in Kosovo the association of Serb municipalities can only be established as an NGO. However, he emphasized that it was never clarified what exactly Kosovo side agreed and signed in Brussels, adding that international agreements overpower the current laws in Kosovo.

Limaj dissatisfied with the justice system

(TV21)

Nisma për Kosovën chairperson Fatmir Limaj said that he is disappointed with the justice system in Kosovo. He considers that the justice is influenced by the politics, emphasizing that the justice system in Kosovo might collapse if it continues with the same logic and approach.

Limaj said that he is shocked how the ministry of justice is being silent in relation to the recent developments in courts and in the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC).

According to Limaj individuals that have misused their official duty should be identified and held accountable for what they have done, adding that this will help in returning the trust to the justice system.

Journalists request Copyright Law amendment

(KTV)

Media and journalists can work hard to produce different news items however their report will not be shielded by the Law on Copyright and Related Rights.

This Law, namely the article 12 defines the daily news as unprotected content, KTV reports.

This disposition of the law has caused that several media and news portal in Kosovo steal and embezzle key information from different media and disrespect the Law on Copyright.

However, the working group that is working on re-amending this law insists that the media and their informative content are protected more than enough.

On the other hand, media representatives and journalists’ associations demand the introduction of new dispositions in the law in order to respect the copyright in all informative contents that are reported by the media.

Journalists consider that if the Law remains unchanged they will be damaged. According to them if a journalist reports about an important event that information/report might be used or embezzled by another journalist or media.

Despite this requests and criticisms, the members of the working group that are working on the changes to the law, have said that it is difficult for any changes to be introduced to the media section, because this Law is based on international convents.
