Dimitrijevic: Serbs do not agree with the boycott of Srpska List

(Klan Kosova)

Chairman of the Consultative Council for Communities, Darko Dimitrijevic recommends to Srpska Lista representatives to quickly return to the institutions.

After a meeting of this Council on Tuesday, Dimitrijevic said that the community he represents does not agree with the boycott of Srpska Lista to Kosovo institutions.

Dimitrijevic considers as a bad idea the boycott, stressing that there are processes that can’t wait and also that cannot be implemented because of the Srpska List boycott to the Government and Assembly.

He emphasized that Srpska Lista should quickly return to the institutions and fulfil the tasks which the Serb voters delegated to them. Dimitrijevic said that the Serb representatives should be present at the Assembly when the Special Court will be voted.

Moreover, Dimitrijevic considers that Srpska Lista has exaggerated with conditions for return to the institutions, as saying that their requests are vague and unclear.

Dimitrijevic also criticized Kosovo institutions in general for disrespecting the laws, particularly the laws related to non-majority communities.

Prishtinë/Pristina and Belgrade argue about ‘Civil Protection’ members

(RTK2)

Prishtinë/Pristina and Belgrade delegation reached deal on dissolving ‘Civil Protection’.

A main question that derives from this agreement is what will happen with over 700 members of the ‘Civil Protection’ in the north.

Serbia requested that 751 members of this structure to be integrated into Kosovo institutions whereas Kosovo side considers this number as exaggerated and offers only 483 jobs for them.

Minister for Dialogue Edita Tahiri said that the reason why they have not accepted the figure of 751 members is that amongst them are individuals that will retire and individuals that are not Kosovo citizens.

RTK2 spoke to a member of the ‘Civil Protection’ in north that requested to be anonymous.

According to this unnamed member on Saturday they all have been invited to the office where superiors informed them that starting of 1st September they will have to retire or integrate into Kosovo institutions. The member told RTK 2 that he cannot integrate because if he integrates into Kosovo institutions he violates the Constitution of Serbia. However the source added that the hierarchy has left to the members themselves to decide if they want to retire or integrate into Kosovo institutions.

IMC hands over digital broadcast strategy to Government

(Most monitored broadcaster, KTV)

On Tuesday, the Independent Media Commission (IMC) handed over the strategy on digital broadcasting to the Government.

IMC Board chair Adnan Merovci during a press conference spoke about the great work that has been done in drafting this strategy, noting that this document entails best practices of European countries.

According to Merovci now the Government needs to approve it and then later submit the Law to the Assembly for adoption. Merovci noted that the Economic Development Ministry is expected to draft the Law on digital broadcast based on the IMC strategy.

Merovci, acknowledged that this strategy has been delayed, which also delays the deadline of 17th of June for switching from analogue to digital broadcast. However, he did not give a certain date about when this process may end as it depends on the adoption of the law and other processes.

Kosovo establishes disaster loss database

(Klan Kosova)

Many Kosovo areas were flooded during the past; however these kinds of natural disasters are not something new to Kosovo. These findings derive from the information which has been collected for the first time in a database of the ministry of interior affairs (MIA).

Minister of interior affairs Skënder Hyseni said that the presentation of results collected during natural losses is an important moment for Kosovo, MIA and for the Emergency Management Agency.

According to these findings the figures of losses by natural disasters for last fifteen years are worrying.

Over 150,000 persons have been affected by different natural disasters since 2000 and material losses per year are calculated to be over EUR 8.5 million.

The project for establishing the Disaster Loss Database in Kosovo has been supported by the CIMA Research Foundation and OSCE.

RTK employees to protest on Wednesday

(KTV)

RTK’s organisational council announced that they will stage a protest against the dismissal of RTK Trade Union chair Fadil Hoxha and deputy chair Arsim Halili.

Representative the organisational council of RTK Shkumbin Ahmetxhekaj said that they will not give up their requests until both dismissed employees return to their jobs.

According to Ahmetxhekaj the dismissal of both unionists has no legal grounds, adding that they have been dismissed because they denounced the censorship in RTK.

“We will protest on Wednesday together with colleagues from RTK. If needed, we will undertake other steps and also ask for support from colleagues from other media outlets in Kosovo’ Ahmetxhekaj said.
