The paper’s Brussels-based correspondent, Augustin Palokaj, writes in an opinion piece that the Albanian politicians in Tirana, Pristina, Skopje or somewhere else are behaving more like analysts than like leaders. Palokaj writes that when serious problems and crises occur, when people want to hear their stances as leaders, they either remain silent, or expect international reactions to decide what line to follow. “The situation in the Balkans is still fragile and quite serious. There is a lot of concern and possibility for new outbreaks for which we thought we left behind,” Palokaj said.
The author writes that it is expected from leaders to show the way to their citizens and to give explanations. “Especially when there is crisis. In such circumstances, the Albanians often remain without a leader. The situation in Macedonia shows that Albanian leaders deliberately or accidentally left people confused. Therefore we do not know what are in fact their real attitudes and visions,” notes Palokaj. “Therefore, we can say that the Albanian people have no leaders who will show them the way, without personal interest and without any manipulation purpose.”
