Lavdim Hamidi writes today that the dilemma on the Special Court should definitely resolve by Friday. “If there is no third solution and if only two options are on the table, then there is no doubt that this dilemma should resolve with establishment of the court by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, in order to prevent the United Nations Security Council to do so,” writes Hamidi.
The vote against the special court on Friday would be considered only if Kosovo allies, the U.S. and some EU influential countries would guarantee that they would use their right of veto at the Security Council for the Special Court not to pass, continues Hamidi. This because Kosovo managed to liberate from Milosevic’s regime and declare independence due to the help coming from these countries. “If recognition by more than one hundred countries depended on Kosovo’s diplomacy and foreign ministers, we would have been happy with seven recognitions,” writes Hamidi.
He further notes that Kosovo politicians contributed on the establishment of the special court by occupying local judiciary and prosecution. “If we proved that we know how to build a state of law, where no one is above the law, then I do not believe that someone would oblige us to establish such special court 16 years after the end of the war, because the local courts would have been commencing their duties successfully,” notes Hamidi.
