The leaders and residents of the three Albanian municipalities in southern Serbia have reacted against the visit to the region by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic who was wearing a military uniform. The Albanian leaders told Preseva Jone news site that Nikolic’s appearance in a military uniform was a scandal, a provocation and a threat against the civilian population. Jonuz Musliu, former head of the Liberation Army for Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac, said: “Nikolic visits other cities in Serbia wearing a tie, but he puts on a military uniform during his visit to Albanian municipalities. This was not a good message and it does not contribute to stability and peace in the region … Serbs and Albanians have put aside military uniforms and we have chosen dialogue as means to resolve our problems. Nikolic’s appearance with a military uniform during his visit to Presevo Valley is a threat and aimed at causing fear among the local population.”
