Draft law for financing potentially accused persons by the Special Court approved
(KTV)

The Government of Kosovo has adopted the draft law for legal defence and financial support of potentially accused person by the Specialized Chambers, without knowing its financial cost at the first place.

It is expected that defence costs of the accused persons, travel expenses of their family members and those that will be found not guilty will be compensated with this draft law.

The draft law as such has already been opposed by a civil society initiative.

PM Mustafa: Brussels talks to resume on 29 June

Through a statement posted in his personal Facebook account, the Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa announced that Brussels talks will resume again on 29 June.

“All parties have demonstrated commitment to solve the issues that are keeping us hostage since the end of the conflict and focus more in the development and integration perspective’, Mustafa stated.

Five NGOs searched in relation to terrorism

Special Prosecution of Kosovo in cooperation with the Kosovo Police searched five nongovernmental organizations in two different locations, in Prishtinë/Pristina and Prizren.

The search was carried out due to suspicion for the criminal offence money laundering, from the Article 308 of Kosovo Criminal Code, related to Article 24 of the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
Wednesday’s search is among the actions taken in relation to a case that is being investigated by the Special Prosecution of Kosovo, with the aim to prevent and fight terrorism in Kosovo.

Niue Island recognizes Kosovo’s independence

Kosovo Foreign Minister Hashim Thaçi announced through his Facebook account that Kosovo was recognized by the state of Niue, a country island in the Pacific Ocean.

“Niue sovereign votes in agencies such as UNESCO, WTO, WHO, etc. represents a contribution in gathering the majority of votes needed for Kosovo’s membership in UN agencies,” Thaçi wrote in his Facebook account.

Egyptian community marked their National Day

The Egyptian community in Kosovo marked their National Day. On this occasion, leaders of this minority community presented their emblem by which they will be presented in various local and international initiatives.

Leaders as well as members of this community emphasized the extreme poverty that these citizens live in is alarming.

In order to improve situation of this minority community, the Steering Committee for Integration and Promotion of the rights of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities initiated the process for drafting the new strategy, RTK2 reported.

“This strategy aims to improve living conditions for communities, as well as creation of political, social, economic, educational and cultural conditions for preservation of identity, protection and respect of characteristic values of these communities,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Kujtim Gashi.

Representative of Egyptians at the Kosovo Assembly, Veton Berisha, underlined that aside from the poor social status, they also face other problems, including the racial discrimination.

Poultry stolen from Serb returnee in Klinë/Klina

Thefts in the municipality of Klinë/Klina do not stop.  In fact, all the chickens of the only Serb woman, the 74-year old Katja Grujic of Pjetërq i Poshtëm village, have been stolen.

According to her, this is the fourth time that she has been stolen and she always reported thefts to the police; nonetheless, perpetrators still have not been identified.

Klinë/Klina police station officials said they have carried out the investigation and they expect to identify perpetrators soon.

Serb representatives in Kosovo Government, Deputy Prime Minister Branimir Stojanovic, Ministers Dalibor Jevtic and Ljubomir Maric, harshly condemned yet another attack on returnees in Klinë/Klina.
