The attempt of Pristina to push an amendment on the formation of a new army of Kosovo together with other constitutional amendments causes destabilization of the region, claim the interlocutors of Sputnik.
According to Aleksandar Jablanović, president of the Serbian List, the intention of forming new armed forces in the region is especially dangerous because that armed formation should be composed of people whose past is controversial (former KLA members).
He denied speculations that consensus on forming Community / Association of the Serbian Municipalities (ZSO) in Kosovo assembly is conditioned with the tacit consent of the Serbian List MPs for the formation of the Kosovo Army, recalling that ZSO is obligation of Pristina. “Establishment of a Kosovo Army is a serious security risk and a threat to the Balkan region, especially if the structure is formed without the consent of the relevant factors in the region. In regards to this issue, the Serbian list will implement the policy of the Government of Serbia,” said Jablanović.
Dusan Proroković from the Centre for Strategic Alternatives says that according to his understanding of the Brussels Agreement, the formation of the army of Kosovo has been only postponed until further notice.
“The fact that Albanians accelerate this process means that the position of Serbia is weak and that it has a poor negotiating platform, due to which it is conditioned from several sides. Brussels condition us by opening chapters, Albanians by variety of other things, such as the army of Kosovo … So I think that today we are much further from solution than we were two years ago,” says Proroković, adding that formation of the army of Kosovo would lead to regional destabilization.
Otherwise, the Ministry for the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) has prepared a draft law on the transformation of the KSF in the Armed Forces of Kosovo in February this year, which was then sent to the Government of Kosovo. KSF Minister then pointed out that the aim that the future army of Kosovo is a NATO membership. Under the plan, the Kosovo army will have about 5,000 people, and it is not excluded that there will be a tank unit. Kosovo Security Forces were formed in 2009 and then consisted of about 2,500 members.
