The Kosovo government has decided today to dissolve the so-called Civil Protection that has operated as a parallel security structure in the northern municipalities. The government’s decision foresees: the integration in Kosovo’s institutions of 483 persons who were members of this structure, and taking over all facilities that were previously used by the Civil Protection. Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, told the government that the conclusions for the dissolution of the Civil Protection are in line with the agreement for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Tahiri said the conclusions were reached in March after a series of lengthy discussions. “The conclusions include the shutting down of all observation points, offices and facilities that were used by this illegal structure and their handover to the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. With this agreement, the Kosovo government has pledged to integrate 483 individuals that were members of this structure,” she said. Kosovo’s Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said the decision marks an important step. “We are now consulting the Minister of Finance and we have employment opportunities for this year. We need to implement the decision and integrate these individuals,” Mustafa added.
