Dacic: Kosovo cannot join UNESCO

(Most monitored broadcasters, KTV&TV21)

Serbian minister of foreign affairs Ivica Dacic sent a letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon over the intention of Kosovo to become a member of UNESCO. In this letter, Dacic highlighted that this would be unacceptable for Serbia, because Kosovo cannot be considered a state.

Serbia has not changed its position concerning the status of Kosovo, although it is faced with requests and efforts by Prishtinë/Pristina to get involved in the work of international institutions outside the context of the agreement on regional representation and cooperation, KTV reported quoting Serbian media regarding Dacic’s letter sent to Secretary Ban.

Meanwhile, the Serbia’s minister of labour and social welfare, Aleksandar Vulin, also said that Serbia will fight against the idea that Kosovo becomes a member of UNESCO, saying that those that burned down Serbian Churches cannot present themselves as defenders of heritage and aim the UNESCO membership. Other TV broadcasters reported that Vulin made these statements during a visit he paid to Prizren on Sunday.

Zbogar: EUR 6.7 million collected in Jarinë and Bërnjak

(KTV)

The European Union Special Representative in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, said that EUR 6.7 million have been collected from payment of customs and taxes at the Jarinë and Bërnjak border crossings.

In a press statement, Zbogar said that as of 12 May, the municipalities of the north have been informed about the procedures that funds for the projects must meet.

“The Fund Steering Committee will make the assessment of initiatives that came in from municipalities. Projects might include construction of buildings and roads, provision of support to small and medium enterprises, as well as cultural and sports activities,” EUSR Zbogar said.

According to him, on another ground, the EU has already given EUR 3.5 million of irrevocable assistance to the four municipalities in the north.

Special Court to be voted on Thursday

(Klan Kosova)

The Special Court process can be concluded on Thursday. This can at least happen based on what the chairperson of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaçi, has told to different international diplomats.

This was told GazetaBlic by international sources close to the process of the Special Court establishing. According to these sources, Thaçi gave a signal to internationals that he has secured enough votes for establishment of the Special Court.

“If this is true, then it is expected that over the next week, at the latest on Thursday or Friday the constitutional amendment that pave the way for the establishment of the Special Court once again will be put at Assembly agenda”, the source said.

Prishtinë/Pristina started issuing documents in Turkish language

(Klan Kosova)

Aside from issuing documents in Albanian and Serbian, the Prishtinë/Pristina municipality has also started to issue documents in Turkish language. A decision of the Kosovo ministry of interior stipulates that Turkish language is used in every municipality where there are residents of this community.

Blerim Camaj, the Head of the Civil Registration Office, said that as of 6 July this year the certificates, extracts and all other documents might be printed in municipalities where the Turkish is an official language.

The Turkish community, which composes 1.1 per cent of the overall population in Kosovo, welcomed this decision.
