The governments of Serbia and Albania, in cooperation with civil society organizations, will soon launch an initiative to set up the Western Balkans Youth Office, said the participants of a press conference organized by the National Youth Council of Serbia (KOMS) on Tuesday, on the occasion of the International Youth Day, August 12.

The main theme of this year’s International Youth Day is civic activism of young people, the officials said, pointing to the significance of international youth exchange programs.

The Office will focus on the implementation of exchange programs in order to contribute to the mobility, intercultural education and reconciliation among the region’s youth.

The governments of other countries in the region will be invited to sign a political declaration on August 27 in Vienna, which will enable them to officially launch the formation of the Office.

The KOMS will initiate a campaign this fall with an aim to point to the procedural, normative and organizational inadequacies in the work of the state administration which create obstacles to a more efficient realization of youth programs and policies, KOMS Secretary-General Marija Bulat said.
