Belgrade and Pristina contrary on membership in UNESCO

The deputy head of Kosovo diplomacy Petrit Selimi, yesterday denied the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic that the United Nations did not accept to forward Kosovo’s application for admission into UNESCO.

– Statement by Minister Dacic is not correct. We have for a week communication with New York. New York did not refuse a request of Pristina for membership, but only declared incompetent and thus rejected the idea of UNESCO to mediate in communication between the Kosovo Government and the UNESCO – explains Petrit Selimi to Danas.

– We have already agreed with the partners of Kosovo to go for the “B” plan. Kosovo’s application for membership will be considered in October at the Executive Council of UNESCO, rest assured. We are now working to secure votes, rather than on procedural issues – emphasizes Selimi.
