Any new evidence or progress made in the investigation into the murder of my brothers would be useful, but we insist that any new evidence or progress be shared fully and directly with the FBI, said Fatos Bytyqi.
Serbia’s war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said on Monday that progress has been made in the investigation into the murder of the three Bytyqi brothers.
In an interview to the Belgrade daily Danas, Fatos Bytyqi said that the FBI has been conducting its own investigation into this case for the past eleven years. The investigation is conducted in cooperation with the Serbian authorities so it should be carried out without any problems, but that is not the case in practice, and we insist that any new evidence or progress made in this case be shared fully and directly with the FBI, he stressed.
Focusing on new evidence is good but it shifts the attention from the main problem – lack of witnesses, he added.
Many witnesses do not trust the authorities. There have been too many leaks of information, threats and intimidation, which discouraged the witnesses, Fatos Bytyqi said.
The Bytyqi brothers (Agron, Mehmet and Ylli), American citizens of Kosovo-Albanian origin, were killed in Petrovo Selo, a village in eastern Serbia, shortly after the end of the Kosovo conflict. They were members of the so-called Atlantic Brigade which operated as part of the paramilitary organization Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
