UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in his latest report expressed regret because of the slow pace of Kosovo’s institutions in the formation of a Special court for crimes of so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), but also warned that “Islamic state” threatens Kosovo.

The report covers period from 16 April to 15 July this year, and was released at the eve of the UN Security Council session dedicated to Kosovo and Metohija, which will be held on 21 August.

He said that delays in the establishment of a Special court are “regrettable” and that they undermine the image of Kosovo. According to Ban Ki-moon, they are presenting also “a lost opportunity to set a good example of dedication to the justice and accountability, write Vecernje Novosti daily.

Ban Ki-moon welcomed the resumption of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on the outstanding issues, including the formation of the Community / Association of Serbian Municipalities, and pointed out to the slow pace of implementation of some agreements deriving from the negotiations held between Belgrade and Pristina.

Ban Ki-moon said that Kosovo and the region face transnational challenges, especially when it comes to youth radicalization and extremism of youth.

He recalled that the Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo raised indictment against 32 persons for terrorism, due to the allegations that they have recruited people for fights in Syria, or that they were collecting money for “Islamic state”.
