A meeting on the construction of Nis-Pristina-Durres highway was held Thursday ahead of the Western Balkans Summit in Vienna.

The meeting was attended by Serbian and Albanian Prime Ministers, Aleksandar Vucic and Edi Rama respectively, Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, President of the European Investment Bank Werner Hoyer and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti.

Vucic and Rama reiterated this is an important infrastructural project for the region, which aims to connect the two peoples.

The Serbian prime minister pointed out in the past several months that Serbia will finish its section of the highway even if the EU does not support the project financially.

The construction of Nis-Pristina-Durres highway is the only issue which requested a special meeting in the scope of the summit that will bring together the leaders of the Western Balkans and the EU, in order to encourage the region’s European path and try to find a solution to the problem of asylum seekers due to the current situation.
