Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic didn’t say a word yesterday about the signing of the agreements between Serbia and Kosovo. Belgrade-based paper Danas didn’t manage to receive any answer from Nikolic’s cabinet on question what would be the destiny and significance of  Nikolic’s platform on Kosovo following the signing of agreements in Brussels between Serbia and Kosovo.

Did the President expect from the Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic more importance and respect toward his document in his efforts to influence the flow of the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo. Was the document in vain? Did he give up on his own platform on Kosovo, considering that that he is not talking about it in public, neither has he insisted for it to be taken into consideration despite the fact that several months have passed since he handed it over to Vucic?

General public was not officially acquainted with the content of the President’s platform on Kosovo, despite announcements that the document will be discussed at government’s sessions. General public was due to be acquainted with President’s ideas about this, as stressed by the state leadership, most important political issue following announced discussions in the parliament.

Media unofficially reported that Nikolic, in his platform, proposed to Serbian Government that North of Kosovo continues to be treated in line with the Serbian Constitution, whereas territory which is not encompassed by the Association/Community of Serb municipalities would have the treatment Albanians used to have in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Media also reported that idea of Nikolic was in line with constitutional limitations, aiming at achieving lasting agreement with Albanians, that is, that Albanians enjoy broad autonomy, similar to one that republics enjoy in federations.

Following a comparative review of the content of the four agreements reached in Brussels between Serbia and Kosovo, it is obvious that Serbian Government didn’t take into consideration Nikolic’s proposals. However, general public is not able to receive answers on questions whether the reason behind it is a noncompliance of the President’s idea with the reality and with what would be possible to achieve, and how is it possible that Serbian President is not reacting on such ignorance, or had he realized that he was wrong and gave up on his platform?
